Congratulations, Leah Montoya!
We are thrilled to have Leah Montoya as our 2025 San Diego County Regional Youth of the Year.
Leah is a resilient and determined young leader who embodies the values of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego. Nominated for Youth of the Year 2025, Leah’s journey reflects courage, growth, and a strong commitment to excellence.
Leah joined the Club in sixth grade after moving to a new school and a new country. Although she did not yet speak English, she quickly immersed herself in Club life—joining robotics and cup stacking, volunteering in the snack shack, and leading activities with confidence. Through perseverance and fearlessness, Leah rapidly developed her English skills while building meaningful connections with peers and staff.
Initially hesitant to join the Youth of the Year program due to concerns about her accent, Leah’s confidence flourished as she entered high school. She now maintains a 4.0 GPA and is an active member of her school’s soccer and volleyball teams, demonstrating discipline both academically and athletically.
With her poise, determination, and leadership, Leah Montoya is a positive role model and a deserving Youth of the Year nominee, inspiring others through her resilience and commitment to growth.
“Although we moved under very stressful and unfortunate circumstances, I thank my mother for planting the seed of strength and resilience inside of me, my father for giving me the roots of hope, and the Boys & Girls Club for giving me the chance to not only survive, but to blossom.”
Make a Difference
In 2024, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito and Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside joined forces as Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego. United, our mission remains steadfast: to provide safe, nurturing environments where children and teens from all backgrounds can grow, learn, and succeed. With eight clubhouses and specialized programs, we now offer expanded services, from after-school support to teen leadership initiatives, with a shared commitment to character-building, academic achievement, and personal growth.
Now, our Club is the second largest Boys & Girls Club organization in San Diego County. Our Club is defined as a Major Metro Organization by Boys & Girls Clubs of America due to the size of our annual budget and the number of children we serve.
Today, our organization serves:
– 6,500 registered members in our After School Program
– 16,500+ total number of youth served
– $655,000+ in financial assistance awarded each year
