Cornhole Tournament
October 5, 2024
IN PERSON @ AT DEL MAR DOG BEACH
Day of Check-in Starts at 8am
Tournament Starts at 9am
Back by popular demand! Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego is proud to present our 9th annual Cornhole Tournament hosted by our Jr. Board.
Enjoy the day at the Del Mar Dog Beach with your closest friends (and meet some new ones too!) while enjoying a friendly tournament of cornhole. Round one is the “round-robin” round, where each team plays four games. Top two teams from each court play head to head in a single-elimination match. Top eight teams (based on score) move on to round two where single-elimination games take place until we have a first-place team!
Between games, enjoy beers from our beers and eats with your feet in the sand.
Who doesn’t love an audience! Sign up as a spectator and watch our teams duke it out while enjoying drinks and food from the sidelines.
Bring your sunscreen and sunglasses and we will take it from there.

CORNHOLE TOURNEY RULES
Rule 1: 1 point for bag on board. 3 points for in the hole.
Rule 2: Points cancel. For example:
Rule 3: If any part of the bag is touching the ground, it does not count.
Rule 4: Roll-ups/Bounce-ups DO count.
Scoring: Games are to 21 points. Winner will be awarded 2 extra points for a total of 23. The loser will be awarded the points they scored to be counted towards their round robin total. I.E . Score is 21-17, winner gets 23 , and loser gets 17. Top 16 teams will go through to the second round (Single elimination). Winner from each court automatically goes through. Last 6 teams to go through will be decided based on highest score. In case of a tie on those 6 teams: then a single toss (by each player) playoff will occur to determine the team to advance.
Round Robin: You have one court. Two teams should always be playing and the other 3 teams should rotate officiating/keeping score.
Single Elimination Rounds: Follow same rules as above
General Rules: To determine which team tosses first please use the “rock, paper, scissors” methodology. After that, the player who goes first is the one player that most recently scored.
The first side of contestants alternate tossing their corn bags until they have thrown all four bags, then the remaining contestant (tossing from the other cornhole platform) continue to alternate in the same manner until all four bags are delivered and the inning completed.
One contestant from each team shall be at each end of the court. When contestants are tossing their bags, the contestants at the other end shall be well behind & to the side of pitcher’s box (for their own safety).
FAQ’s
Is there a refund policy?
Refunds are only offered in the event that City, State and/or Federal guidelines prohibit this event from happening.
What time should I get there?
Check-in begins promptly at 8:00 am.
The tournament will begin at approximately 9am.
Where do I park?
Street Parking is available on Via De La Valle on the west side in the residential area. Metered parking is available on North end of 101. Meters will be enforced. We strongly recommend using ride shares or carpooling.
Can I park my motorhome?
No. Motorhomes are not allowed to park along the 101 (Coast Highway). If you park there, you will be towed.
Will there be any health and safety protocols that I must adhere to?
More than likely yes. Based on CDC, State and Federal Guidelines, we anticipate all participants will need to adhere to social distancing standards and wearing masks when social distancing is not allowed. We reserve the right to refuse entrance/service to any participant who does not comply with these protocols.
Is there a prize for winning the Tournament?
Yes. The prize for winning this tournament is a case of beer for each team member, a photo op of your team drinking beer out of our “Cornhole Cup/Trophy” first right of refusal on a single Cornhole Tent Sponsorship for the following year’s tournament!

NO. Our liquor license is only valid if served through our bartender/VIP tent. Outside alcohol of any kind is prohibited.
Can I bring a tent for shade?

Can I bring an umbrella for shade?
No. Everyone in the event is required to be associated with a tent sponsor. Therefor the need for “outside” umbrellas or shade is prohibited.
Is this event kid-friendly?
We welcome families and children of all ages at this event. Keep in mind, alcohol will be served and due to the sometimes raunchy nature of the team names that are announced throughout the event, this may not be the best place for toddlers/young school-age children. Kid-friendly activities are not provided. All children must be accompanied by an adult and may not be left alone or unattended at any time.
Is this event dog-friendly?
Yes. We welcome well behaved, non-aggressive dogs to this event. All dogs must be restrained with a leash no greater than 6′ at all times. All dogs must be accompanied by an adult and may not be left alone or unattended at any time. Rules and regulations set by the City of Del Mar will apply and be fully enforced.

Cornhole Court Size: Boards are positioned 27’ from the front edge to front edge of the board.
Do I need to bring anything to participate in the tournament?
No. Equipment for Cornhole is standardized and will be provided.
Is this event like the Bocce Ball Tournament that used to be hosted at Dog Beach?
This event is NOT open to public observers. Capacity for this event is 250 people. We do not encourage large groups of “cheerleaders” to attend the event, as this is a fundraiser, so our numbers are reserved primarily for players. Everyone in attendance of the event MUST be associated with a tent. Beer is not for sale in individual servings. Access to the beer and food tent are only available with purchase of a VIP bracelet. VIP bracelets are limited. First come first served.
What level of player participates in this tournament?
This event revolves around friendly competition NOT strict rules and the desire to outperform your competition at all costs. If you are a beginner or novice player looking for a relaxing and fun day on the beach with a few friends, this event is for you. If you are looking to hone your bag tossing skills in order to advance into other more competitive leagues or championships, we suggest directing your participation towards an ACL tournament or league instead.
How do I assess on my registration if my team is a “novice” or competitive” level team?
Seeing as this tournament is a small, friendly charity event, we classify “Novice” players as non-experienced in the sport OR someone who plays less than once per quarter. “Competitive” players are classified as someone who plays regularly in their backyard, with friends or in leagues (more than a handful of times per year).
*Please note – this is a CHARITY TOURNAMENT – there are no referees and those running the tournament are volunteers. Our equipment is either handmade for portability not competition and/or of standard quality. We use the ACO Guidelines for Cornhole. We rely on all participants to be honest in their own scorekeeping and to understand that mistakes can happen at all levels of scorekeeping, bracketing and judging. We appreciate your constructive feedback and welcome your spirited yet good-natured competition.
