Together We Can. Together We Will.
We are embarking on an ambitious mission to expand the number of youth and teens we serve across North San Diego County from 16,500 to 20,000 by 2026!
Every dollar invested in Boys & Girls Club generates $10.32 in return to the community through increased earnings and long-term cost savings. This means that your contribution not only impacts the lives of today’s youth, but it also creates a lasting economic benefit that echoes through future generations. With your support, we can provide safe spaces, educational opportunities, and mentorship that will shape the leaders of tomorrow. Together, we can build a brighter, more prosperous future for North County San Diego.
Maximize Your Charitable Giving with Required Minimum Distributions
Did you know you have the option to direct your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your retirement account to a qualified charitable organization like ours?
What is an RMD?
Annual withdrawals (Required Minimum Distributions or RMDs) from retirement accounts such as traditional IRAs, 401(k)s, 403(b)s, and other qualified plans are required by the IRA for individuals aged 72 1/2 and older.
You can reduce your taxable income and support BGCNWSD through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). A QCD allows you to direct all or part of your RMD, up to $100,000 per year, directly to a qualified charity without having to pay income taxes on the distribution.
For assistance or questions, free to contact us directly at (858) 755-9012 or jdiamond@bgcGreaterTogether.org.

What is an RMD?
The IRS requires individuals who are 73 years or older (as of 2024) to begin taking annual withdrawals from most retirement accounts such as traditional IRAs, 401(k)s, 403(b)s, and other qualified plans. These withdrawals are known as Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs). The amount of the RMD is calculated based on the balance in your account and your life expectancy.
How Charitable Giving Can Help
If you are required to take an RMD this year, there is a way to reduce your taxable income and support BGCNWSD through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). A QCD allows you to direct all or part of your RMD, up to $100,000 per year, directly to a qualified charity without having to pay income taxes on the distribution. This strategy can benefit you in two ways:
- Tax Advantages: The QCD counts toward your RMD but is not included in your taxable income, potentially lowering your overall tax liability.
- Support Our Mission: Your charitable gift will help us continue to impact the lives of over 16,500 young people in our community.
How to Make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
To make a QCD, simply contact the custodian of your retirement account (such as your IRA or 401(k) administrator) and request that they send the distribution directly to BGCNWSD. The distribution must be made directly from your retirement account to us in order to qualify for the tax benefits.
Please note that QCDs are not allowed to be made to donor-advised funds or supporting organizations but they can be directed to a wide range of public charities like Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego.
