SUMMARY:October 2026 Lifeguard Training & Emergency Oxygen Course
DESCRIPTION:October 24th\, 25th\, 31st & November 1st (MUST ATTEND ALL DAYS) \nTime: 9:00 am-5:00pm (All days)\n8 hours class each day includes a 1 hour lunch break/ 15 minute break \nMaterials Provided With Course \n\nAmerican Red Cross Lifeguarding Manual\nCPR Pocket Mask\n\nStudents must bring a towel\, bathing suit\, pocket mask\, and lifeguard manual to all class dates. \nThis is course is IN-PERSON CLASS. You will be required to attend all dates or you will be dropped out of the lifeguard training course. \nYou will not be refunded for this course. \nYou will need to schedule a prerequisite in-water skills evaluation as soon as possible before the on-line content is emailed to you. Please email ARC instructor Kevin Sotelo at ksotelo@bgcgreatertogether.org to schedule your in-water skills evaluation. \nPrerequisites \n\n\n\n1. Swim–tread–swim\nYou must complete this without stopping to rest:\n\nJump into the water and completely submerge.\nResurface and swim 150 yards using front crawl\, breaststroke\, or a combination of the two.\n\nNo swimming on your back or side.\nGoggles are allowed.\n\n\nTread water for 2 minutes using only your legs.\nSwim another 50 yards using front crawl\, breaststroke\, or a combination.\n\nThat’s 200 yards of swimming total\, plus the 2-minute leg-only tread.\n\n\n\n2. Timed rescue event — 1:40 maximum\nStarting in the water:\n\nSwim 20 yards — goggles are not allowed.\nSurface dive (feet-first or head-first) to 7–10 feet.\nRetrieve a 10-pound object.\nBring it to the surface.\nSwim 20 yards back on your back\, holding the object at the surface with both hands\, keeping your face at/near the surface.\nExit the pool without using a ladder or steps.\n\nYou must finish everything in 1 minute 40 seconds or less.\n\n\nYou also have to be at least 15 years old by the last day of the course.\n\n\n\nIf you are unable to pass the prerequisite\, you will be unable to take the course and will be refunded your registration fee. \nIf you pass the prerequisite\, you will be handed a lifeguard manual and pocket mask. \n\nTo successfully complete the course\, you must attend the entire course\, participate in all skill sessions/drills\, activities and scenarios\, demonstrate competency in all required skills and scenarios\, and pass the final written exams with a minimum grade of 80 %\nIf you have any question or concerns please contact the Aquatics Coordinator Patty Mariscal at pmariscal@bgcgreatertogether.org
